A new report by the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and the College of Policing on violence against women and girls has been described as a ‘national emergency’ and a pressing matter that has reached "epidemic" levels.

Police recorded more than one million such crimes in England and Wales last year alone, accounting for 20% of all crimes reported to the police.
We know that one of the biggest problems is domestic abuse and victimisation by people known to the victims. While it is NEVER the victim's fault, it is time we took collective action. Waiting for things to change isn’t going to solve the problem.
First, we need to take collective responsibility to educate and support vulnerable groups. Children and teenagers are in desperate need of good role models to aspire to. Women need support groups that can make a difference. It all starts with education and preventative measures.
What we can do:
Talk more widely and openly about radicalisation and violence against women.
Educate ourselves on ways to protect ourselves and those who may need our help.
Organise community initiatives to address the problem.
My recent book, "She Fights Back," examines threats against women, the nature of attacks, and discusses the predominant red flags and predatory characteristics. By understanding the basic mechanics and how we can best safeguard our values and well-being, it is a recommended read for those who look to invest in safety.
While we shouldn’t have to learn skills to be confident and assertive as women, the times we live in give us no option but to seek ways to strengthen ourselves psychologically and physically.
The book can be purchased on Amazon and other retailers. The full list is located here.
